The Manana Man
A novel about death, friendship, love and tequila.
A random stabbing is the starting point for a group of friends to embark
on a weekend wake. Carrying their dead friend’s ashes with
them, they travel the bars and clubs of Leeds city centre to the
hills and beaches of Mull fulfilling a promise they made to give
him the ultimate send off. Covering more than miles, their journey
is full of tears and laughter as they come to terms with their friend’s
untimely death, discovering their own way of coping with loss and
looking to their own futures knowing how easily life can come to
an end. Love found and lost; sex coming and going; grief over death
and life; missed opportunities and misunderstood intentions, all
in a weekend where the tequila flows as freely as the tears.
All At Once
Be careful what
you wish for – you might just
get it.
The school reunion is a tragedy when your life is just plodding along,
all of a sudden you realise how goal orientated you are not. So change
your life, not just one part, but all of it. Give up the job, try
to be the entrepreneur, find the girl and fall in love – and
get her pregnant. All within three months. Then live with the consequences.
But life isn’t that straight forward because nothing happens
in isolation. Compare your life to your friends and feel short changed
and unprepared for fatherhood; realise being your own boss means throwing
a sickie is no longer an everyday hangover cure; worry that all you’ve
got in common with your new girlfriend is a shared responsibility for
getting pregnant, and then discover there’s no going back.
